All Information on Slipknot's Teasers So Far!
Official Countdown Website Hello everyone... I noticed that no one has actually compiled a list of stuff from the teasers we've gotten so far. I wanted to make one for easy access to anyone who wants it. So far this is what we know.
Halloween: Surprise single "All Out Life" is released.
New countdown website got put up, featuring a countdown that ends on Monday (At least in my time zone)
The website features the barcode of their original album, "Mate Kill Feed Repeat, which happens to coincide with the 20th anniversary. This may not have any relevancy, but I just wanted to put that out there.
If you visit the website on your mobile device, it gives you coordinates to the nearest large venue near you. A large portion of these venues are venues included in the "Ticket To Rock" package on LiveNation.com, which also has Slipknot on the package lineup. This confirms the tour locations, but we have yet to have confirmed dates.
If you go to any of these venues, the website presents you with a presale code for the concert for that venue.
If you don't have a major venue near you, you are presented with a date, August 9th. This is the day before they perform at the Iowa State Fair.
Clown has stated that this is going to be one of their biggest shows, though I recommend you take everything Clown says with a grain of salt. It is highly likely that there is going to be some massive reveal on this date.
"We Are Not Your Kind" has been a recurring phrase since "All Out Life" was released. Many speculate that this is a title of the new album.
No one is sure what will happen once this countdown finishes, but some speculate a new song release or a mask reveal.
I included links to Live Nation and the countdown website. Please comment if there's anything I missed! Edit: I felt that I missed some information, so I decided to come back and add some more stuff. They will be touring with Gojira and Volbeat on a NA tour, following their European tour. The NA tour will start with their show at the Iowa State Fair, which is on August 10th. The NA locations are as follows:
Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, Tinley Park, Illinois
Dos Equis Pavilion, Dallas, Texas
Iowa State Fair, Des Moines, Iowa

Not a lot of dates have been announced, but I'll add them as they are announced. I believe that there is also a Toronto show, I'm not sure though. It is also confirmed that Alex "V-Man" Venturella and Jay Weinberg will be with the band for this tour. I will put more information pertaining to the countdown once something noteworthy happens. For now though, this is all I have. Edit #2: Thanks for the upvotes! I'm pretty new to Reddit, but this is the most upvotes I've ever gotten on a post, and I thank you guys. I just want to help the fellow users. I'll keep updating as more noteworthy events happen. Edit #3: Toronto is confirmed! Budweiser Stage, Toronto, Canada I'm also including links to all teaser videos so far. Teaser #1 Teaser #2 Teaser #3 Edit #4: Wow! I just looked, and we're almost at the top of the page! this is way greater than I thought it would be, thank you guys so much! Hopefully this post helps all you guys out! Edit #5: Behemoth will also be touring with Slipknot. Edit#6: Special thanks to the mods for sticking the post! The amount of upvotes is insane! I'll keep making updates as new info is released. Edit #7: I will be at school at the time when the countdown ends, I will update it as soon as I can once something new happens. Edit #8: Thanks for all the help with making this post as accurate as possible! Like I said before, I'll be at school when the countdown ends, but I'll update as soon as possible. See ya later maggots! Final Edit: The countdown lead to an announcement of the NA tour, dubbed "Knotfest Roadshow". Not really much else to say there. They have confirmed an album release on August 9th.
Fun fact; even with worst rating in 10 years, the super bowl is still 100x more viewed to the second sport in America ( so if this Decline is true, part of it is called "top heavy" meaning the NFL has a lot to lose) Not going to post this in NFL because I'm sure what truth I'm about to say they'll just dismiss and this post is more directed to them and not this sub. But we're family here so I'll figure I'll tell yous first. First off if you think just because the Patriots just being in another SB contributes to the low rating then stop reading because everything else I'm about to say is just going to be rejected. Now does it surprise anyone in how fast they came out this this claim? Literally 2 seconds after the game was over it was the first "football" stat that America had to know. Among all the real in game stats we first had to know the viewership of this SB.. Why do I think this has to be the first wide spread stat? Because I this the MSM couldn't wait to down a New England better yet the Patriots club because they think excellences is bad for the sport. First non consideration on MSM. When there is a SB, there is a SB party. I was at a party with 80 people in one house...... With 1 TV. All my friends in Facebook post a pic in where they were at, size of 20, 50,90 total people....... With 1 TV. Now you times (x) that all around New England in all the party that we are having because it's the biggest game of the year and our team is in it. So, no offense to anyone that sat at home alone in watching the game but the majority of viewership was with a lot of multiple people per household...... And they only consider it 1 TV each. Now I'm going to say they calculating viewership digitally and not via asking person by person in if they watched the game in how fast they made this claim. Again, if you turned on the TV the next morning at 8am you would already find this stats out. Second non consideration on MSM. That football gambling is massive now this is the first legal year people can do at all casinos. I mean for crying out loud you can place a LEGAL bet just on the damn coin toss but it has to be at the cosino. Therefore, what does a casino have? Tons of people and....... 1 TV. Let's continue. Cord cutting is at all time high and certain people are able to use there hack box via web in watching. Networks can not calculate this stat because it's Illegitimate. Louisiana. For what I'm hearing they're boycotting the SB and we all know why. State of Texas. I believe it's hard for them to watch because Dallas is slowly no longer "America's team" and now it's the Patriots. Guys, we still love yall down there.. You guys produce the most football players. California. Well if you guys didn't have 4 football teams to root for unlike the Patriots has the whole region (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine) I'm sure not the right California team for few people didn't get in for them. Plus the state of California had it's toughest year know to date.. Watching a SB might be last on their bucket list. It's funny that everyone I talk too even via online, people I know all around the country even know a handful of people in Canada all watched the game... But yeah we can all agree on it wasn't the most exciting game.. But again they all still watched it. Now the commercials for quite some years now been pretty lame so all those people that "only watch the SB for the commercial" yeah we lost them years ago. Now we have to figure out, did we all watch the SB and only a few of us liked it and the majority did not like it does not and should not translate to not watch it... Meaning, you don't say "well it was boring and I could of dealt in not watching it" to "I did not watch it" For me, I actually liked that game and the more of the deep dive I'm seeing for multiple different football analyst in how they're dissecting each and every play, this game might be for the ages. I mean in what people can learn for shutting down a D line and completely shutting out the highest score football team this season in league history for any other team. You really have to love the game of football to appreciate this. It wasn't that not every play was high action, it was but clearly the Rams couldn't translate that into positive yards. Not every SB is the best game of the season just because it's the best teams of the season. I think nfl fans been spoiled this year from being the highest scoring season in nfl history. For the Patriots. We play to win the game and we are the best at it. Period. If the Rams had more points on the board, we wouldn't make an effort to run the clock. Shit, the second half was the fastest (hour and half) in SB history because there was no need for us to make this a slug fest. If we can stop them on the defective end, in which we did, then what difference does it make if it was 53-3 or 13 -3? On the Rams. Wow just wow. For a high powered offensive in league history to put up a shit show like that really tells something about crumbling under pressure in big games. I mean, perhaps the Saints should of been there. And Goff and McVay how nervous they looked even before the end game started should be considered in Rams future but that's a different topic for a different day. All and all, maybe people still salty with on the right with the whole anthem controversy or the left how they blackballed Colin Kaepernick all this and many other elements that cause to just not watch the game. But to say because of the excellence of the Patriots constantly being in the super bowl is the number one reason why people didn't watch it, I say you're not a true football fan but more of a follower of what's hot at the moment and just because your town or state not really throwing any big football viewing you could still watch at home of true excellence in how this team all gels together, every week, every game, every play into a winning Championship team. The younger generation that doesn't actually play football are just not into football. It's not like people 30 years ago in how I knew my small scared ass would get crush playing but I love watching the people who can. Kids today just don't give a flying fuck because of the on demand time we're living in today and if they're not a part of it, kids can gravitate into something that they can be a part of (video games) I believe this is going to be a new trend no matter what teams are in it
Which city will be the next to get their first NFL team?
Roger Goodell is always talking about growing revenues and sometimes expanding the league. It seems likely that Los Angeles will eventually get a team again, but what about cities that have never had an NFL team? What city will be the next to host their first home team? City: San Antonio, TX Population: 1,382,951 Other Pro/Major College Teams: San Antonio Spurs (NBA) Pros: Located in football-crazy Texas, San Antonio is by far the biggest city outside of Los Angeles to not have an NFL team. San Antonio is growing rapidly. And while a San Antonio team would be the third Texas NFL team, the geography works- they're more than 2.5 hours from Houston and 4 hours from Dallas. But what's most attractive is that it would be easy to plug in an NFL team without much investment, due to the construction of the 65,000 seat (up to 72,000) Alamodome in the early 90's. It hosts the annual Alamo Bowl and other events such as CFL and college games. At 65,000, it would be the 6th smallest stadium, tied with Ford Field and just a little more than the University of Phoenix Stadium. Expanded to 72,000, it lands between Atlanta's Georgia Dome and Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium. It would be newer than 9 currently in-use NFL stadiums. As the NFL seeks to internationalize itself, having a team this close to the Mexican border may also prove to be an attractive prospect to draw in Mexican audiences. Cons: The Cowboys and Texans may not want to share their Texas pie with another major franchise, even one far away from most of them. And while large, San Antonio is not a high-profile city. While the Spurs are popular, there isn't much in the way of major sports to know if a team would succeed in the town, and if they could pull enough dollars from Texans, Cowboys, and Longhorn fans. Likelihood: This seems to be the most likely place. An untapped population, international reach, and a ready-made stadium could make this a highly attractive spot for an owner looking to make a move with minimal investment (i.e. not having to build a new stadium, or get a local government to build one). City: San Jose, CA Population: 982,765 Other Pro/Major College Teams: Sharks (NHL) Pros: San Jose is hip place in the heart of Silicon Valley, with beautiful weather and a lot of money. Cons: The 49ers just moved their stadium to Santa Clara, just bordering San Jose. If anything, they are more San Jose than San Francisco. With the Raiders in nearby Oakland, it would concentrate a lot of NFL firepower in one small footprint. Likelihood: Very low. The league would likelu not allow a team there with the 49ers on their doorstep. While a market can support two teams if large enough (Jets/Giants, 49ers/Raiders) adding a third would be too deletrious to those in place. City: Columbus, OH Population: 809,798 Other Pro/Major College Teams: Blue Jackets (NHL), Ohio State Buckeyes (NCAA) Pros: Ohio is up there with Texas with states that take their football seriously. Columbus is the largest city and capital in Ohio, and is already the home of very avid football fans for the Buckeyes. I'm not sure of the politics would make this possible, but if OSU allowed the Columbus NFL team to use Ohio Stadium, it would be the second largest (only behind Cowboys Stadium) with a max attendance of 102,329. Cons: It would be the third NFL team in Ohio, next to the Bengals and Browns. Both of those teams have been historically not great, and along with the continued poor showing of the Blue Jackets and difficulty of succeeding in the NFL may make Ohio sports teams weary. Likelihood: Unlikely. The Buckeyes own Columbus, and the other two owners in Ohio (and nearby Pittsburgh) would probably not want to share their turf with a new team. Unlike Texas, this is an area that has been under some economic hardship and may be difficult to justify another team in the state. City: Austin, TX Population: 842,592 Other Pro/Major College Teams: University of Texas Longhorns (NCAA) Pros: Like with San Antonio, Texas is enthusiastic about football. Still located a good distance from the current NFL teams in Texas, Austin is a city in the midst of large economic expansion. The University of Texas contributes to a fun, weird atmosphere that would make Austin an attractive destination for visiting fans to come into town. If like Columbus the NFL team was able to lease Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, it would again be the #2 stadium in the NFL wth 100,119. Cons: Like Columbus and their Buckeyes, Austin bleeds burnt orange. UT football is a big deal there, and an NFL team would probably be in competition for these dollars. While there is large support from Texas faithful and the very large student body at UT, it's not clear that there would be the same level of support for an NFL team right there. Asking for 200,000 football tickets to be sold most weekends in the Fall is a daunting prospect for a town of less than a million people. Likelihood: Unlikely. Austin doesn't seem like a city that has much drive to need an NFL team, as their sporting fixes are more than made up by a typically-competitive UT team plus the nearby Cowboys and Texans. City: Portland, OR Population: 603,106 Other Pro/Major College Teams: Timbers (MLS), Trail Blazers (NBA) Pros: Portland is a growing city that doesn't have a competitive football team nearby. Seattle is 2.5 hours, and the two recently-competitive football teams, Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks, are 1 to 2 hours away. Portland is larger than many NFL cities and is very underserved by pro sports in general, and Oregon fans have shown a lot of support for their NCAA teams. A sporting culture, including a ready-made partnership with Oregon-based Nike, might make Portland a place to put on the radar if the NFL seeks to expand. Portland and Seattle can continue their rivalry on the gridiron, instead of arguing whose Pride Parade is gayer. Cons: There would have to be a new stadium built, and locals are probably going to put up a fight against any public financing or use of eminent domain to secure a desirable city location. This would mean a stadium probably built out in the suburbs, which can have mixed results. I asked some relatives of mine what they thought about local support, and they were decidedly mixed, thinking that Portland thinks itself too much of itself to allow something as base as professional football to succeed. Likelihood: Not the least but not the most. While there's no real muscle pushing a team to Portland, and Portlandia has biased me to think that locals will protest something as base as football, it might actually be a good place for the NFL to consider expansion to. City: Toronto, ON Population: 2,615,060 Other Pro/Major College Teams: Blue Jays (MLB), Argonauts (CFL), Raptors (NBA), Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto FC (MLS) Pros: The Bills already play one game a year in Rogers Centre (though it will always be SkyDome to me) and there are a lot of Canadian fans of NFL football. While the Toronto series has been a debacle for the Bills (usually meaning the opposition has as many fans there as the Bills, giving them effectively one less home game a year), a dedicated NFL team may fare better. With local support, Toronto has the sports culture, population, stadium, and most importantly money (check out Maple Leafs ticket prices!) to support an NFL team. Whether the local support would actually catch is another story. Toronto would also become the third-largest city with an NFL team, coming in just under Chicago's 2.7 million. Cons: For American football, Rogers Centre only seats 54,000. That makes it the third smallest stadium in the NFL, above just Chicago and Minnesota. Crowd noise at the Bills games has been lackluster to say the least, but then again, so have the Bills. They would also be in direct competition with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. While the NFL definitely has larger marketing and name power, the Argos do enjoy healthy local support and are one of the oldest sports franchises in the world. Ex-con players might create headaches for visiting teams at the border. Free agents might also be hesitant to make Toronto home, given that it's (really) cold and Canadian taxes are much higher. Likelihood: Very. Goodell wants to make the game international, and Toronto is the prime target. Buffalo seems the most likely team to move there, but it's far from guaranteed. Don't be surprised if Jacksonville sneaks in on this one. City: Las Vegas, NV Population: 596,424 Other Pro/Major College Teams: None Pros: A completely underserved sports market along with a fairly high population. It probably wouldn't be hard to find a casino magnate with money to burn that could finance an expansion team in the desert. Cons: It's hot. The gambling and party culture might make it a hotbed of player misbehavior, as there's quite a difference between a rookie signing their first million-dollar contract in northern Wisconsin versus a 5-minute drive from The Strip. A new stadium would need to be built, and without any major sports teams nearby, it's difficult to know if an NFL team would be viable. The NFL might also balk at the image of a Vegas team, as inevitably there would be accusations of fixing and bribery for gambling reasons. Likelihood: Unlikely. The NFL is just too risk-averse to invest that kind of money into a place like Vegas. City: Virginia Beach, VA Population: 449,628 Other Pro/Major College Teams: None Pros: Virginia Beach is one of those invisible large metro areas. Taking in the bordering cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Hampton, the greater area has a metro population of 616,805 just in those towns. Expanding to the larger area and it gets pretty big. It's a wealthy area with a major port and some great tourist areas nearby. It fills a void between the Baltimore/Washington tail of Megalopolis before the Carolina fans pick up. While there is no stadium, there is plenty of room for one, and lots of waterfront that could potentially be converted to a beautiful stadium location. And while the Sacramento Kings deal didn't work out, it showed that local government and ownership groups may be willing to bring a team to this area. Cons: Not a high-profile place. An NBA team, especially one like the Kings, is significantly cheaper than an NFL franchise. The team would have to build a stadium. Likelihood: Could be a dark horse. Virginia has a surprising lack of sports teams, and is even underserved by major college sports. UVa is rarely much more than middling, and sometimes-competitive Virginia Tech is all the way at the western end of the state in Blacksburg. While they probably won't be much of a target for a team looking to move, if the NFL chooses to expand, expect VA Beach to be under consideration. City: Birmingham, AL Population: 212,038 Other Pro/Major College Teams: None Pros: The southeastern United States is strangely lacking in professional football teams. While the dominant SEC dominates the local sports fans attention, it seems like fertile ground in which to plant an NFL franchise. Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama, and doesn't have a local team in the city. Cons: It is on the smaller side of NFL cities, and it's not a sure thing that the dyed-in-the-wool Alabama football fans will change their spending from the Tigers and the Crimson Tide enough to really allow the team to take root. Likelihood: Very low. City: London, England Population: 8,308,369 Other Pro/Major College Teams: Like, half the Premier league and a bunch of rugby, cricket, and at least one NFL game a year. Pros: The NFL has been playing games in London for a few years, and fan support has been steady. Wembley Stadium seats over 86,000 for American football. While many Brits seem to find our American game incomprehensible (but somehow find a way to figure out Cricket), there is some fan support for the game. Goodell has publicly expressed an interest in getting a team to London sooner than later, so there is definite management support. Cons: Imagine the 49ers travelling to the London teams, and you're talking about a 20-some-odd hour flight. American free agents will probably often be very hesitant to go to England. The London team's travel times to ANY games, even those "close" games on the US east coast would be a huge disadvantage. Their body clocks would also be completely thrown off, and jet-lag would become a factor. Likelihood: Very, but I believe it will be short-lived. The logistics and other factors of having a European-based team in an American league is just awful, and I think over time that would bear itself out. City: Omaha, NE Population: 421,570 Other Pro/Major College Teams: None Pros: Omaha is a growing city, and Nebraska's economy is one of the strongest in the nation. While the state of Nebraska lives and dies by their Huskers (located at the University of Nebraska an hour away in Lincoln) Omaha's distinct lack of any major college or pro sports seems to be odd. The Huskers manage to scrape up enough people to fill their 90,000 capacity stadium in a city half the size of Omaha every week, so I think Omaha could very well support a team. The midwest is underserved with pro ball, forcing most Nebraskans to split between the Rams, Chiefs, or Broncos. I work with a few people from Omaha, and they tell me there's too much residual hate of the University of Texas for Cowboys fandom to take root. Omaha has a burgeoning music and art scene, and probably wouldn't be a detriment to free agents. Cons: No ready made stadium, and a lack of too much of a metro area. Knowing how absolutely religiously dedicated Nebraskans can be to their Cornhuskers, I'm not convinced an NFL team can really gain traction. This might be pure college ball territory. Likelihood: Not bad. I think Omaha would be a good location, and could be a great place for an expansion team.
I've thought about it a lot, often times Far Cry focuses on realistic events. Well there is one such group in my state that is constantly battling the US Government (at least in court). The Tribes of Oklahoma, which are technically sovereign nations with restrictions similar to a state. Ever since the US govt. allowed them to have casinos they no longer depend on Federal Grants and run lavish casinos (even for Vegas standards). They even have tribal police and security along with a court system. Of course they have limited power and are trying to expand the jurisdiction of their Tribal Police. The Tribes close to the Texas border are trying to expand into Texas with charter casinos and other economic interests but are being halted. Keep in mind every time the Tribes go to the Supreme Court to ask for more rights/privileges the Government can potentially remove them. It's a game of fire and ice with freedoms allotted to the tribes and it's been that way for a long time. Along with that our current state government is in shambles as is. An awful governor no one likes and a huge disapproval rating on our current laws being enforced. Well why would I bring them up? I'm not going to say what happens at the end of Far Cry 5, but it sets up an opportunity for the Tribes to unite and simply take the state back for themselves. In our state their is big political divide between the Conservatives and people who don't care and want more freedom. Both hate the government, and while they would not kill for politics, Oklahoma's National Guard will probably make enough mistakes to get the people to resent them enough, especially if another state sending in soldiers to "keep the peace". Dallas will certainly have a lot of refugees fleeing and this will lead to another economic power, Texas (although weakened) being incapacitated to securing it's Northern border. The Tribes can and will buy private security forces. Or recruit locals. I feel they would be a neutral faction and more stable, the other conservative and libertarian factions would have a lot of infighting between the local towns controlled by different factions. They would all be neutral towards the Tribes because of trading/common interests. The other main faction would be the US government and the people who support them (a few extremists from the Left, for the most part Democrats aren't much different from Conservatives in Rural Oklahoma and love the tribes). Which will slowly work from from the southern part of the map, to across the red rivelake Texoma then to the casino. The Oklahoma National Guard will attack from the North but will be defended against, but cost the Tribes/Factions losing land in the South to the Texan National Guard. The Location is also vital, one tribe has casinos close to the Texas border (hence why so many Texans cross the border to gamble). Their biggest casino is in Durant and it has some interesting features, like a massive lake on the border of Texas/Oklahoma. Along with some hilly terrain and a lot of hidden small towns/villages. Along with a lavish casino that is the main employer of nearby towns/cities. The finale will probably be whatever side you helped by taking their towns (Libertarians or Conservatives) helping the Tribes + faction defend against a National Guard assaulting their casino. The Tribes and the faction you sided with are fatigued from infighting as they fight a much larger force.

Yes, I'm an executive so I'm in touch with most everything that goes on. Most of the time when I see something like that, I just say "good for us" and try not to think about whether or not the person can afford it or not.
I, obviously, like to think I'm uber classy. But in general I think paycheck cashing promotions are pretty tasteless. E.g., Cash your paycheck and get 5% of the total value in free slot play.
Let's say your check is $1,000. The casino will cash your check and then also give you $50 in promotional credits to be used on the slot machines. The idea is that since we've given you some "free" money to begin playing the machines you will also dip into the $1,000 cash that we also handed you.
No, you get the $1K in cash and the $50 can only be used in the slot machine. I've done this once when I started my new job and my direct deposit wasn't set up yet so they issued me a live check.
I really don't like them so not often unless someone is in town that wants to go. I don't have a moral objection, just think it's a waste. "Hey do you like to eat steak? Give me $20 to smell this delicious steak! No, you can't try it!!!".
So that having been said, I might spend $20 to give to the girls on the stage and maybe a lap dance.
No, I don't get treated better because of my title really. They usually just care about how much money you spend and that's it.
Ummm... Off the top of my head I think the sneakiest thing is probably side bets on table games (e.g., play an extra $5 and if your two cards are a pair then you win $25) because the odds are terrible or things like advertising low table game limits but modifying the rules (e.g., blackjack pays 6:5 vs 3:2) to increase the house advantage.
First, we quantify most everything by "theoretical worth". That is, how much we can expect to win from you based on the house advantage of the game you play and how long you play. The general formula is decisions per hour X house advantage X hours played X average bet. So, $25/hand at blackjack X 1.5% house advantage X 2 hours played X 60 decisions per hour = $45 in theoretical worth.
Second, It really depends on the particular property. The number is a lot higher for Wynn then it would be at Joker's Wild (a really, really dumpy casino on the outskirts of Vegas). That having been said, most places will be very happy to have you if you are in the $150-300 a day in theoretical worth range.
I just threw the 1.5 number out there. We also factor in skill into house advantage so as to be more favorable to the player, comp wise. comp wise we'd probably give you 15% of the $45, or $6.75. That's just in what we call discretionary comps that the pit supervisor or host can give you. Then you could expect another 30% in the mail via free bets, hotel, food, etc.
Well I've worked all over the country and, yes, of course we always keep an eye out on new competition that would impact our existing customer base, especially as the business has seen much more legalization in new jurisdictions in the past 20 years.
For Vegas, I think most strip properties have dealt with this by investing in properties in regional markets so as to send their customers to their Vegas properties so it is pretty accretive. Someone from Harrah's Ak-Chin in the Phoenix area gets offers from Harrah's Las Vegas quite often.
The bigger problem really is for the markets where they were a monopoly for some time and really rested on their laurels. Reno and Atlantic City come to mind. Those markets are dying fast and there really isn't much upside. In Atlantic City, for example, you have casinos buying competitors just to close them so as to reduce the inventory.
I worked as a slot analyst (analyzing machine performance) years ago and never on the floor so I don't know/remember the exact steps. Essentially, though, it's verifying that the machine is functioning properly and recording the details of the jackpot for audit/regulators. If it is a taxable jackpot ( >= $1,200) then we are required to fill out the IRS W2G form to report it to them for tax purposes so at that point we have to get your ID, etc. to facilitate that. Then of course, there is the matter of actually paying you the money, verifying that it is the correct amount, etc. The tax form does get sent to the IRS. You can request the taxes not be taken out of your jackpot as you are only taxed on the net win at the end of the year.
4.) There's a lot of pressure to make money/meet your budget so all of the bullshit that goes along with that. Dealing with politics, having to adjust staffing, etc. And I don't like that at my level the usual tenure is 2-3 years so you move around a lot. I'd like to be more settled, especially in a place I'd really want to live for a long time and I don't feel like I have much control of that in this business.
1.) I mean there is only one of me at every casino so if something happens whether I don't like where I work or what something different (e.g., more money) or they don't like me (shocking, it happens!) then the likelihood that I have to move is high, especially if I'm in a city that only has a handful of casinos. 2.) I obviously feel like my skills could take me anywhere! But in reality, it has been tough to change industries when I've tried. Usually places like hotels don't pay as much as casinos and look for more sales-related skills and restaurants don't really have marketing people except at the corporate office whereas my skills are more analytics-oriented. And both usually pay less than casinos.
The problem with returning to that type of vibe is that it's difficult/impossible given how big the casinos are. Sure it was easy for Benny Binion to control everything and not be "corporate" when the old Horseshoe was literally 1/10th the size of MGM Grand.
I went there for grad school so was older and had a wife and a house. It is definitely a commuter school so there's not a lot of school spirit. I went to undergrad a school with a huge, huge, huge, football program so it was a bit of a change for me. I also didn't find the students to be terribly bright (with exceptions, of course). On the upside, a lot of people like living in Vegas and the Hotel Administration College (where I went) has very, very good brand recognition.
Yes, they hang out at the bars and then there are services you can call and have them sent to your room. If it's overt, casino security will clear them out of the bar area but the vice cops generally focus on human trafficking kind of stuff.
1.) The industry relies heavily on industry experience so job prospects are good if you're willing to start in a low position and work you're way up. If you go to UNLV and get the degree I got and expect for some casino to make you a Director of VP with no experience then you're going to be very disappointed.
3.) Definitely potential opportunity. I've read about that small tribe in Texas. It'll happen eventually in Texas. The people in Louisiana will not be happy, though.
Viable for what? Making consistent money? Then definitely not. If you are entertained by thrill of gambling and have the discretionary funds to do it, then by all means.
My undergrad degree is pretty bland, political science, so it wasn't hard at first. I did my grad degree in casino management because I was living in Vegas, wanted to get an MBA, didn't want to take 2 years off from work to get a full-time degree, didn't have the support of my job to get an executive MBA, and didn't like UNLV's MBA program.
Las Vegas Sands / Venetian is actively trying to kill it (which I don't really understand) but everyone just sees it as a means to make more money so are ready to pounce when it's legal.
1.) Generally there are poker dealers and table games (e.g., blackjack) dealers. Few do both. Among the table games dealers, most know multiple games as the more you know the more hirable you are. In terms of the qualifications it's just that you've gone to some sort of dealer school (there are commercial ones and some casinos do it in-house), experience, and a live audition. 2.) Really depends on the market and the casino. At the high end like Wynn or Venetian they will do close to $100K/year but at an entry-level place it could be more like $25K/year. It's base salary plus pooled tips (aka tokes).
3.) You've never thought of dealing the WSOP? They need as many dealers as they can find.
Encore and the new Barrymore are definitely designed for the Asian gambler. And you'd, obviously, have to assume the casinos in Macau are, too, although I've never been.
Typical work day is get to work and look at the previous day's financial results and react accordingly. I.e., ask the analysts to pull numbers, talk to the head of a certain department about their opinion on something, etc.
Emails emails emails.
Then it's usually a lot of meetings about upcoming things whether it be planning an event, approving new advertising, doing the strategic planning for the property for 2015, meeting with vendors, etc.
Emails emails emails.
By this time the numbers or reports I've asked to be run are ready so I sit down and look at them and act accordingly (e.g., hey, looks like we're spending too much on postage to mail to customers too far away, let's change the way we do this for next time), etc.
Emails emails emails.
Then it's usually time to go home but 2-3 times a week I'll have a dinner or event to go to with a vendor or colleague or someone from the press.
Emails emails emails.
Probably 2-3 Saturdays a month I'll go in and work for a few hours just to catch up on stuff or if there's an event to meet and greet players, make sure everything is going well, etc.
The masses don't care about either especially if you're able to offer low limits. The limit and the number of decks is what attracts people to a bj game. Still never going to allow counting.
Well certainly there are more what we call "front of house" positions (dealers, porters, servers, bartenders, etc.) than "back of house" positions (accountants, IT, warehouse, etc.) so in terms of pure numbers, yes it's easier to get -any- FOH than -any- BOH position.
That having been said, if you're wanting an IT position shouldn't be too hard if you're willing to work anywhere and have a little experience. If you're wanting to just jump into the CIO job at Bellagio, more difficult.
They aren't. The games have to go through pretty rigorous testing by the state or an agency of the state to be allowed to be sold. Gaming Labs International is one such company.
We definitely do SEO/SEM campaigns but primarily for hotel related keywords for people looking for hotel rooms. I worked at a place a little outside of the main city in the south one time and we'd buy broader search terms for people looking for "entertainment in main city" in case they didn't know there was a casino nearby.
I'd rather not say as I don't want to be outted but I have worked for large publicly traded companies, privately held companies (e.g., owned by hedge funds), and publicly traded companies where one individual owns the majority of the shares. I've never worked at a privately owned casino owned by one individual, though.
From a gambling standpoint, people in that age range like penny slots so we offer a lot of penny slots. We put on shows that would appeal to them. We would make the decor more classic vs hip. Etc.
It really depends more on the manner in which you win and how you behave. We're required by law to fill out a Currency Transaction Report for transactions over $10,000. So if you got to that point you would have already given us your ID, etc. We'd obviously make sure that surveillance is watching you to make sure you're not cheating but if you're on a random hot streak and betting $10K/hand then it wouldn't be a huge deal at most strip properties.
At my place, (which is not an uber classy place like Wynn or Venetian), you'd get pretty much whatever you'd want. Suite, dinners, limo from the airport, show tickets, etc. We'd generally reinvest in you 30% of your loss so just figure out what $3,000 in comps would get you.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I believe you really just need to be tenacious and take anything to get your foot in the door. It's a very crowded field, especially on the what I call "pretty picture" side of marketing. I wish I had a more specific answer to give you.
I usually say I'm in charge of driving profitable revenue. The departments that report up to me are charge of advertising, promotions, entertainment, public relations, direct mail/database marketing, and VIP marketing.
Absolutely. I think most of the major companies have management training/internship programs. Go to their careers websites. Caesars Entertainment, MGM International, Pinnacle Entertainment, Penn National Gaming, etc.
I think the best combination in today's world is to be more right brained with a creative bent as more and more the question asked of marketing folks is "quantify how your idea makes me money?" and less and less "what's the most most creative idea you have?"
It's a crowded field especially on the left brained side (e.g., advertising and public relations) because people think it's "cool". So if that's you're interest, I'd say being tenacious and creative is what is going to get you far in that world because it's tough to get your foot in the door and you have to have thick skin and then when you do get your foot in the door you are going to have a very short leash to prove yourself.
The hotel management program in general is not selective but the casino management program is difficult because it's pretty quantitatively-focused so there's a lot of attrition.
I'm not from here and my ex-wife hated living here thus why she's my ex. My friends and I go and see concerts, go to bars, we like guns so go shooting sometimes, and most Sundays cook for each other.
Doing what, exactly? Just be willing to make not a lot of money for awhile and be willing to relocate frequently if you want to move up the ladder. I guess those are the first things that come to mind.
